I love being a country girl. My parents moved to a small farm when I was 4. Not a working farm, but my dad had cows, chickens, pigs, horses, you name it, he had it. I was a tomboy and loved riding with my dad in his Chevy trucks to various farms as he wheeled and dealed with the farmers buying and selling cattle. Most of the time, I was told to stay in the milkhouse of the farms, only to be found playing with the barn cats. Hence the love of cats!
As the years went on and I turned that magic number of 13, of course my loves turned to boys and the Partridge Family, The Osmonds and every other boy band of my generation. I was into Seventeen magazine and the newest fads and make up. But, deep inside, I was still a country girl at heart. My first love of music was country, my Mom was a big Eddy Arnold and Patti Page fan, but my other loves were of the music of the 70's, rock and roll. My dad had wanted me to become a veterinarian because of my love of animals. I was not into the blood and guts and unfortunately did not follow that path.
After high school, I loved working for my dad as a cashier at his auctions. He was also an auctioneer, household and cattle auctions. I met a lot of farmers and cowboys along my way. I also was going to a local college at the time thinking I was going to pursure the dream of communications and TV. I ended up working in retail at the time too and all that I learned went by the wayside. But then, in the fall of 1982, I met a young man, who like myself, grew up on a small farm and he was just a country boy. The kind of man I always wanted to meet and fall in love with and raise a family in the country.
And we did! Even after almost 30 yrs of marriage and 2 children, I am still a country girl at heart! Oh and our daughter, she is also a country girl!
